Shhh!

Sylvie made the gossip column in the San Francisco Chronicle after an improptu performance with a borrowed ukulele at the Berkeley Public Library. Sylvie was one of the 'Honored Authors' at the library's annual Authors Dinner fundraiser - a formal dinner in which donors sit at a table with an author of their choice. When someone at Sylvie's table asked if she would sing, she said she hadn't brought her ukulele.Berkely Library 2 15So, as Leah Garchick reported in the Chronicle, "One of those table-mates, ran home to get a uke, in time for her interview (she was last on the program). And so she ended the program by accompanying herself singing Cohen’s Suzanne,' mesmerizing the guests, said spy Carol Pogash, and even leaving a few teary-eyed."Sylvie did take her uke to the Jewish Community Library though, reading from I'm Your Man: The Life of Leonard Cohen and singing Leonard Cohen songs to a packed room of 200. The show, originally planned for hanukkah last year, was postponed when a freak storm blew out the electricity. Tonight the lights - and the amplifier; shhh, silence in the library! - all worked fine.Tonight (6th March) you can catch Sylvie opening for Sweet Chariot at one of her favourite rock nightclubs in San Francisco, The Make-Out Room. And she'll be back there next Sunday (15th March) as part of the Ladies of Uke night. See the Tour page for details.
