Looking for the sun
Hi from my back stoop in San Francisco. Wherever you are I hope that you’re safe and well. It’s been a while since I’ve posted here, but only because there’s not been a lot of cheery news. I’ve lost several friends and colleagues in recent months, some of them musicians, some of them music writers, and I seem to have spent most of my time writing obituaries and tributes. And now of course there’s a war going on. Sometimes it’s hard to see the sun.
The good news is that concerts are starting to make a comeback. I’ve really missed live music - both as a fan and a performer. On Saturday night I went to see the S.F Symphony play “The Rite of Spring” and tonight I’m going to see Nick Cave and Warren Ellis. I also have some shows of my own coming up in the Spring and Summer (more on those later ) so my booking agent asked me to get some new photos done to send to the venues. Here I am on the back stairs, in a sunbeam, with photographer Kala Minko.
A few people wrote to ask when the lengthy feature I wrote for MOJO magazine on the late, great Ronnie Spector is coming out. It’s in the copy that came out last month with George Harrison on the cover.
Bye for now and hope to see you soon.
